Dandara Jersey Art competition winners announced

Mr and Mrs De La Haye the winners of the competition published in the Jersey Evening Post successfully identified all 44 landmarks depicted in the painting commissioned by Dandara as part of Jersey's 'Percentage for Art' Scheme.

The stunning painting named 'Capriccio Jersiais' depicts the landscape at low tide of the south east coast of Jersey with a number of recognisable local landmarks situated in a fantasy composition.

The artist Carl Laubin is renowned for his paintings of classical as well as contemporary architecture. The architectural capriccio has become the genre with which he is most closely identified, having produced capricci to commission for Castle Howard, The National Trust, The Syndicat des Grands Crus Classes du Medoc, and the Centre Pompidou among others.

Mr and Mrs De La Haye will be presented with their prize, a limited edition print of the painting at the Castle Quay suite at the waterfront.

The public are encouraged to view the painting which is currently on display at the Castle Quay Sales & Marketing suite located next to the Radisson Waterfront Hotel between 12-2pm and 4-6pm

About the Jersey Percentage for Art scheme

Percentage for Art, encourages owners of large residential or commercial developments to invest a percentage of their development costs into the provision of art in the built environment. Percentage for Art advisors work with the developer, advising them on appropriate artists and art forms as well as managing the commissioning, delivery and installation of the art.

Andrew Scate, Chief Executive Officer at the Planning and Environment Department said “The Percentage for Art scheme has been extremely successful. Many works of art have already been commissioned and within a couple of years we will have created a unique portfolio of art and craftsmanship, which will be publicly accessible, and which will enhance and reflect the beauty of our Island.

Dandara are one of the main sponsors of the ambitious program to acquire works which will not only bring a new level of excellence to residential and commercial redevelopment, but will also benefit generations of Islanders for many years to come.

Together with advisor Philip Hewat-Jaboor, unique pieces are being commissioned from leading British sculptors and the works, some inspired directly by the Jersey landscape and its history will become part of the fabric of the Island whilst serving to enhance its natural beauty.

Commenting on behalf of Dandara, Managing Director Martin Clancy said, “We have fully embraced P&E’s ‘Percentage for Art’ scheme and have made significant investment in pieces which have relevance to the individual schemes. These unique sculptures will enhance the developments for both the individual residents and the general public alike”.

Details of the commissioned pieces and biographies of the individual artists can be found on dandarajerseyart.co.uk
