Dandara officially unveiled the new look piazza at its Image in Hemel Hempstead along with the Alfie Morland Bridge, which links the scheme to the town centre, at a special Piazza Party on Saturday 18th September. The event was attended by approximately 1,000 people throughout the day from across the local area and included a variety of activities culminating in a spectacular fireworks display from the top on the KD Tower, the 22 storey building at the heart of the development.

The event began at 1:30pm with the unveiling of The Alfie Morland Bridge named in honour of Alfie Morland, a young local boy who died of a brain tumour in 2007. The bridge was opened by The Mayor of The Borough of Dacorum Councillor Roger M. Taylor, along with Alfie’s parents Robert and Lucy Morland.
Guests were then led across the footbridge by rhythmic beats of Stomp the Tribute into the newly finished piazza area. Guests were then able to enjoy a coffee shop, hog roast, Oojam Bar, caricaturist and the ‘Yr Wall’, an interactive digital graffiti wall, which recently featured on the TV program Dragons’ Den. In addition, the Heart FM Angels were based in the piazza.
Guests also made their way to the 14th floor of the KD Tower where they had the opportunity to visit the selection of high specification show apartments as well as indulge in a treatment from Toni & Guy and tour the Kodak Exhibition which included information on the KD Tower’s former use as the European Headquarters of Kodak.

The ground floor sales and marketing suite featured a Scalectrix track, as well as live music and a silent auction. A raffle raised nearly £500 to support Alfie Morland’s Trust - the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust. The day’s events concluded at 8.00pm with a stunning fireworks display from the top of the KD Tower.
Michelle Harris, Sales Director for Dandara UK South comments: “The response to the Piazza Party was fantastic and we welcomed approximately 1,000 guests throughout the course of the day. The piazza had a real buzz, which is exactly the type of ambience that will be created when the shops, cafes and restaurants occupy the space when the development is completed. The opening of the Alfie Morland Bridge will provide a quick, safe and convenient link to the rest of the town centre and will prove critical in incorporating Image into the wider community.”
The Image development is set to be completed in December 2010 when the landmark 22 storey KD Tower welcomes its first residents. The KD Tower is Hemel Hempstead’s tallest landmark and is the conversion of the former European headquarters of Kodak into the town’s most desirable apartment building.
Unrivaled specification
The completed tower will include a total of 254 one and two-bedroom apartments and penthouses offering a specification and finish unrivaled anywhere else in the local area. The generously proportioned apartments range in size from 514 sq ft to 810 sq ft, with many of the properties benefiting from private balconies. The apartments on the upper floors of the building provide uninterrupted views over Hemel Hempstead and the Hertfordshire countryside.
As part of the conversion and refurbishment of the building, Dandara has replaced the original concrete façade with a stylish sleek exterior incorporating extensive glazing and coloured steel panelling. An additional two floors have been added to the roof of the building to provide both space for the prestigious penthouses and a pinnacle for the building.
The KD Tower is part of Dandara’s wider Image development which includes a total of 434 apartments in six buildings and approximately 40,000 sq ft of office space, as well as a range of retail units and landscaped grounds. The development offers residents a complete lifestyle solution with services including a concierge, shuttle bus transport to Hemel Hempstead train station during peak hours.
