Dandara supports the return of Laxey ladies team

Laxey Football Club has returned to the senior ladies’ league this season with support from new sponsor Dandara, the award-winning developer.

The club last entered a team in 2012 but after numbers decreased coaches decided to focus on growing the junior girls’ set-up, which is now one of the most successful in the Isle of Man.

Many of those junior players are now eligible to play at senior level, and along with a group of women who have joined to get fit and enjoy the sport, the Glen Road-based club has decided to re-join the league in a bid to retain and develop the talent currently on its books.

One notable junior squad member is Tia Lisy, who recently signed for Manchester United Under 16s for the 2016/2017 season. There are many other juniors, who also play for the Isle of Man, who will be able to join the senior squad when they turn 16.

Dandara, which has sponsored the Laxey junior teams for a number of years, has provided funding for new kit.

Marketing Manager Angela Beresford said:

We’ve been involved with Laxey for a while now and we have been delighted to see how much the ladies section has grown and with a great deal of success. Re-entering the senior league is a positive step for both the club and women’s football in general and we’re delighted to be able to offer our support.’

Laxey Chairman Dave Callow continued:

We’re very pleased that Dandara has agreed to provide a new kit for the team to play in this season. It’s great that we’ve been able to re-join the ladies league this season at a time the Isle of Man FA is trying to grow the sport’s popularity with women. With the junior talent we have we’re confident that Laxey Ladies will go from strength to strength.

Training is on Tuesday evenings from 20.00 to 21.00 at Bemahague Sportshall and Thursdays at Ramsey Grammar School 19.30 to 21.00. New players are very welcome.
