New homes in Tarves, Aberdeenshire offer the 'Good Life'

Show Home (detached family homes in Tarves Aberdeenshire)

Nestling in the Aberdeenshire countryside Tarves, with its quaint granite cottages clustered around the village square, is just under 30 minutes from Aberdeen itself while Aberdeen Airport is only 15 miles away.

THE good life! A phrase which has become something of a cliché but is unashamedly used by one young couple since they gave up city living and took over the village shop and post office in the picturesque Aberdeenshire village of Tarves 10 months ago.

“We have two young children and Tarves is just such a fantastic place to bring up children, not only does it offer them a healthier environment to grow up in but has the added advantage of a very good school,” says a very unequivocal Reena Mathur. “Everybody is so welcoming and our shop, Duthies of Tarves, seems to be where people love to have a bit of a chat.”

Family homes offer character and individuality

Tarves is an increasingly sought after location and Dandara is currently building 18 four and five bedroom stylish detached homes in the village; homes which have been sensitively incorporated within the landscape and offering character and individuality. Prices range from £299,950.

“These are energy efficient, well-planned homes designed to meet the needs of a family with flexible areas for living and entertaining with high specification kitchens and stylish bedrooms, “ says Dandara’s Gillian Roberts. Brought up in a Renfrewshire village, Gillian is a staunch advocate of village life and the advantages it offers families, particularly when it comes to the freedom it gives children in their formative years.

Tarves village Aberdeenshire

“A village is all about community spirit and that is what Dandara’s development Tarves Lea offers,” says Gillian, who heads the sales team for the development.

“Tarves is small enough for people to really know each other and you only have to look at the notice board outside the village hall to see what a lively village it is with so much going on.”

Sentiments echoed by 19-year-old law student Leona Taylor-Ross who has lived in the village since her parents moved there when she was aged four.

Not a retirement village

“This is definitely not a retirement village, there is a good mix of ages and school was just great,” says Leona, who works part-time in Duthies. “Getting into Aberdeen is no great hassle as there is a good bus service. Tarves is my home, I just love it here.”

On the outskirts of the village there is Haddo House, designed by William Adam in 1732, and one of Scotland’s grandest stately homes with its surrounding parkland, lakes and stunning formal gardens. While for golfers there are three courses within six miles of Tarves.
