Concern over the effect that human activity has on the environment continues to grow, with legislation continuing to tighten in relation to the control of the depletion of natural resources and the liberation of CO² into the atmosphere.

The development, construction and use of buildings accounts for a large percentage of the total energy consumed by human activity, and as such, must contribute to achieving the goals set by Government.

As a responsible developer, we believe in supporting a sustainable future for our younger generations. It is our policy to maximise the use of brownfield sites, negating the need to develop in rural, greenfield areas and it is our continuous aim to ensure that we design ‘life time homes’.

Waste management and recycling policies form part of each and every development and we actively pursue policies relating to the reduction of embodied energy levels, by the auditing of materials selection; for example, at our Spectrum development in Jersey, reconstituted car tyres have been used to create communal walkways and rooftop terraces, ensuring no noise pollution when people are moving around the apartment blocks.

Enhanced insulation levels, low energy light fittings and the specification of timber species and sources which are not endangered are just some examples of our commitment to implement the principles of sustainable development.
