More about Leicestershire

Why live in Leicestershire?

Leicestershire has something for everyone. Leicester, the county’s largest city, is one of the oldest in England, with a history dating back more than 2,000 years. In fact, you can still visit the Roman ruins at Jewry Wall, which was part of the Roman town’s public baths. In the city, you’ll find shops at Highcross, plenty of places to eat and the lively Cultural Quarter, which is packed with galleries, live music venues and theatres.

Outside the city, towns like Market Harborough are perfect for food lovers. Famous for its protected pork pies and Silton cheese, this historic market town celebrates its culinary past with traditional butchers, local delis and bakeries. It’s also home to Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe, a visitor favourite since 1851.

A green and scenic place to call home

Leicestershire is a great place to enjoy the outdoors. Bradgate Park, with over 800 acres of open countryside and free-roaming deer, is one of the county’s best-loved natural spaces. It’s the perfect place to escape into nature for a few hours.

If you enjoy canal-side strolls, the Grand Union Canal offers peaceful walking routes through some of the county’s most scenic spots. Beacon Hill, Watermead Country Park, and the picturesque Foxton Locks are also perfect for families and dog walkers. For a more adventurous day out, Rutland Water is within easy reach of our new build homes in Leicestershire, offering watersports, cycling trails, and panoramic reservoir views.

How well connected is Leicestershire?

Leicestershire sits in the middle of England, which means getting around is simple. Major roads like the M1, M69, and A46 pass through the county, making it easy to reach cities including Nottingham, Derby, Birmingham, and Coventry. Driving to London takes around 90 minutes.

Leicester station offers direct trains to London St Pancras in just over an hour. You’ll also find regular connections to Sheffield, Birmingham, and other major UK cities from stations across the county.

Heading abroad? East Midlands Airport is close by, offering flights to dozens of European destinations for holidays or business trips.

Schools in Leicestershire

Leicestershire has a strong reputation for education. Across the county, many primary and secondary schools have been rated ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. Areas such as Loughborough, Market Harborough, and Hinckley are particularly well regarded for their school catchment areas, making them attractive places to raise a family.

When it comes to further and higher education, Leicestershire is home to two respected universities. The University of Leicester is known for research, while Loughborough University consistently leads in UK rankings for student life and experience. For vocational and post-16 options, Leicester College and Loughborough College offer a range of practical courses and A-level options.
