Royal Tunbridge Wells, with its natural springs and spa waters, was once an epicentre of fashionable society, attracting royalty and commoners alike. In 1700 the Upper Walks were paved with pantiles, distinctive thick square tiles made from heavy wealden clay. Throughout history, the area has been known by numerous names including The Parade or Royal Parade. However, The Pantiles name was formally reinstated in 1887 and remains to this day.

The Pantiles today is the most well-known and photographed part of this historic spa town, with a colonnaded walkway offering a variety of boutique shops, art galleries and open-air cafes, restaurants and bars. The band stand plays host to a free Summer Jazz festival on Thursday evenings and there is a fortnightly artisan food and craft market.
The natural Chalybeate Spring which was discovered in 1606 can still be found at the northern end of the Pantiles. In the town centre there are a number of beautiful parks and both the Assembly Hall and Trinity theatres offer a variety of live performances throughout the year.
For commuters, Tunbridge Wells mainline station is ten minutes’ walk away and from here you can reach both London and Ashford International within approximately 50 minutes.
