Dandara Celebrates Essex Day With Donation Of Cowslip Flowers To Felsted Primary School

In celebration of Essex Day (26th October), housebuilder Dandara , who is currently building new homes at The Orchard in Little Dunmow, has donated 30 cowslip flower plugs to Felsted Primary School.

Known as the symbolic flower of Essex, the donation is part of Dandara’s wider campaign to celebrate the awareness day by distributing cowslips flowers to schools across the county. The campaign also aims to encourage biodiversity and deepening young people's connection to their heritage.

The origins of Essex Day are tied to St Cedd, the patron saint of Essex. His feast day on 26th October was later adopted as Essex Day, a county day celebrating local heritage, history and identity.

Bryony Collins, Headteacher at Felsted Primary School, commented: “Planting the Essex flower provides a great opportunity for our pupils to learn about local wildlife, whilst gaining hands on experience in being part of history. We look forward to seeing the plugs blossom in the Spring.”

The cowslip plugs, known for their bright yellow blooms in springtime, and a donation of soil from the housebuilder, will be planted by pupils in the school’s garden.

Gemma Bannister, Sales Director at Dandara Eastern, commented: “As we grow our communities across Essex, we are passionate about sharing such an important day with local groups and what better way in doing so then educating the next generation of the history with planting flowers. The cowslip flower not only brighten up gardens but also provide valuable nectar for bees and butterflies. We hope the pupils at Felsted Primary School enjoy watching them grow for years to come.”

The planting at Felsted Primary School marks one of many wildlife donations Dandara is making across Essex to mark Essex Day and demonstrate its commitment to the local communities.
