In an effort to keep Wavendon’s roads safe, independent housebuilder Dandara, who is building new homes at its Abbots Place development in the area, enlisted the help of St Mary’s Wavendon CofE School in a road safety poster competition.
Dandara worked with the school to encourage students to design street signs that promote safe driving. The competition aimed to serve as a timely reminder for local drivers to exercise caution, particularly in areas frequented by schoolchildren, ensuring their safety during their journeys to and from school.
The top three designs were acknowledged for their creativity, with the first, second, and third-place winners receiving arts and crafts gift cards. Additionally, Dandara donated hi-vis vests with the company's logo, ensuring the pupils' safety during their journeys to and from school.
Mrs Dicks, Headteacher at St Mary’s Wavendon CofE School, commented: “This competition served as a wonderful opportunity to reinforce to our pupils the importance of staying safe while walking outside school grounds. Seeing the students apply their creative skills and have fun was brilliant. I hope these posters serve as a lasting reminder for drivers in the area to exercise caution and prioritise safety when on the road.”
Rachel Lindop, Head of Sales at Dandara Northern Home Counties, added: “We really enjoyed seeing the imaginative designs the pupils created, and we hope this competition reminded them how to keep safe when traveling to school.
"We hope the posters will encourage drivers to be safer when driving around school communities and provide parents with reassurance about their child traveling to school. We are looking forward to seeing the posters displayed in the local area and the pupils in their hi-vis vests.”
