Last year, child poverty in Wales was at its highest, with approximately 200,000 children living in poor conditions due to increased housing costs[1]. This is projected to increase by 34% by the end of 2030. To support the country-wide call out for clothes and accessories for children in the area, local housebuilder Dandara has donated to CWCTH Baby Bank in Cardiff, to go towards newborn clothes to help support local families.
Established in 2016, CWTCH Baby Bank provides essential equipment, clothing and toiletries for newborn-24 months old babies through referrals from social care, health professionals and relevant support agencies. The charity is the first of its kind across Wales supporting local families with second hand pre-loved items.
The country-wide call out on ITV News Wales raised awareness of the charity and shared how increased demand from local families meant donations were required. The £500 donation from Dandara, who is building homes nearby at its Sant Silian development, will provide clothes for young children in need over the coming months.
Hilary Johnston, Founder of CWTCH Baby Bank, commented: “Since opening, the charity has supported over 6,400 families in need. Donations from local businesses enable us to purchase clothes and equipment which aren’t accessible to many families. Giving back to the local community in a practical way means parents have access to the essentials that every baby deserves.”
Sara Taylor Sales Director at Dandara Wales & West, added: “Supporting families and babies at the very start of their life is incredibly important. With the current housing demand in Wales, it’s crucial we come together as a country and support the local community. Dandara is more than just building homes – we create community hubs, and the local people are at the core of it.”
