Final Preparations Underway for Popular Produce Show

St John's Produce Show Display

The countdown is on for one of the highlights in the Isle of Man’s annual food and drink calendar, the St John’s Produce Show.

Supported once again by local homebuilder Dandara, the community event brings together people of all ages from across the Island to celebrate homegrown, homemade and carefully crafted exhibits. Dandara’s sponsorship, now in its 12th year, will contribute towards the cost of engraving trophies and providing rosettes for the winning exhibitors.

With a huge variety of produce on display, from extra-large vegetables, tasty sweet treats and savoury pickles to mouth-watering fresh bakes, colourful flowers, art, crafts and photography; the show provides an opportunity for local people to showcase talent, effort and a great selection of homegrown delights.

Taking place at St John’s Methodist Hall on Saturday 7th September, all funds raised will go towards Manx Diabetic Group Monitors4Kids and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Isle of Man. Janet Clarkson from Monitors4Kids and John Houghton from Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy have been invited as special guests to co-judge the Best Exhibit in Show and present silverware to the winning exhibitors.

St John’s Produce Show Committee Chairman Sue Staley said: ‘We’re thrilled to have the backing of Dandara once again. There’s no doubt that its support has helped the event to grow and flourish over the years.

Although the show has been running for more than 70 years, it seems to get bigger and better every year. We’re hoping to beat last year’s record-breaking number of entries and funds raised for Beach Buddies Isle of Man and Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation, which totalled £2,846. It will be hard to top but I know with the support of the local community we can do it! If you would like a schedule of classes please email or call our Secretary, John Kneen on 01624 801467.

We’re also are on the lookout for volunteers to help out on the day to serve refreshments, sell raffle tickets, help run the auction and more - you name it and there is a job with your name on. Anyone who can offer their help is encouraged to get in touch with me on 07624 436482.

Dandara Managing Director Seamus Nugent added:

St John’s Produce Show is a wonderful celebration of local produce and a community event we truly enjoy being a part of. Each year the event attracts people from across the Island to enjoy a taste of Manx delicacies, watch in awe at the impressive selection of overgrown vegetables and check out the local talent in art, craft and photography.

Once again two deserving local charities have been chosen to receive all-important funds raised at the show and we hope the money goes a long way.

St John’s Produce Show will take place on Saturday 7th September at Methodist Hall, Main Road, St Johns. Doors open at 3pm, after completion of judging. Admission is £1 for adults and entry is free for children, including refreshments which will be served until 4:45pm.
