First time buyers drawn to Winchmore Hill following the return to commuting

The necessity of the daily commute has never been debated more than in the last year.* However, with many workplaces starting to return to normal, tube usage is on the rise and commuting is once again becoming an important consideration for homebuyers.*

This was the case for Teshnee (26), a finance specialist at Bupa, and Durvesh (30), a Bio-medical engineer in Cromwell Hospital, who recently bought a two bedroom apartment at Dandara’s New River View development in Winchmore Hill, Enfield. Since moving to New River View, the couple are now able to commute from the nearby Winchmore Hill station to Earls Court station in just 40 minutes saving them both time, money and carbon usage from their previous method of travel – driving.

The couple were able to save over £5,000 during lockdown to go towards their deposit. On the market for £535,000, the couple purchased the apartment using Help to Buy London with a 5% deposit of £26,250. As part of an incentive provided by the housebuilder, Teshnee and Durvesh were able to secure £8,000 cashback towards Stamp Duty and Legal Fees.

“As first time buyers, Help to Buy has been a great support to us to get on to the property ladder. We were able to reserve our first apartment with Dandara and the £8,000 towards Stamp Duty and Legal Fees in particular really helped to seal the deal for us.”

Having lived in Enfield for the last eight years and renting a studio apartment in Edmonton Green for the last four years, the couple are familiar with the area.

“We saw the progression of the development almost every day which made us want to view it. The Winchmore Hill area feels like you’re in the suburbs outside of London with Grovelands Park nearby and the New River right next to us, but we also have the perfect commute!

“Having running and cycle tracks nearby, as well as cycle storage at the development, was a big draw for us as we both like keeping active and enjoy cycling together on the weekend. With our friends and family also close by, Winchmore Hill felt like the perfect fit for us.”

Winchmore Hill is known for its quiet Edwardian streets, numerous historic buildings and beautiful parks, yet it offers all the benefits of city living. Residents benefit from a wealth of cafes, restaurants, supermarkets - including Waitrose and Sainsbury’s -, right on their doorstep, as well as the opportunity to stroll along the New River which borders the development.

Simon Pendlebury, Sales and Marketing Director at Dandara Northern Home Counties, commented: “We’re so pleased that Teshnee and Durvesh are enjoying their new home. We are seeing that many of our residents are drawn to the accessibility of running and cycling tracks at the development as well as the fantastic location.

“Winchmore Hill is an ideal location for first time buyers, downsizers and growing families alike, given all the great green space as well as its excellent transport links. It’s perfect for commuters, just like Teshnee and Durvesh, and for leisure with easy access to both central London and the countryside.”

The apartments at New River feature open plan living areas, fully fitted kitchens, modern double bedrooms with ensuites and fitted wardrobes. The apartments benefit from a private balcony and an underground parking space with cycle storage also available.
