Despite the best of efforts to stick to our plans, fate has a funny way of nudging you gently into the path of serendipity.
Wendy and Stuart’s story is one that will resonate with those who, just on the verge of moving homes and making a lifestyle choice in pursuit of their dreams, instead found something even better completely out of the blue – an alternative dream they never even knew existed!
We joined the couple (and their playful black Labrador Bentley) soon after they’d moved into their beautiful new home, to find out what made them choose The Grove, Haddenham.
We were living in a beautiful old cottage in a pretty village not far away from Haddenham for a number of years, with the intention of moving to North Norfolk following my retirement from the fire service.
says Stuart, relaxing on his sofa and allowing Bentley to nuzzle in between him and Wendy, joining the interview. He continues:
We’d got this master plan; no children to worry about, me looking to find a new role and Wendy looking for a dream home amid the peace and serenity of Norfolk’s coastal towns, but jobs were not as flexible as we’d hoped, and then I got offered a new position working in Oxford, which as chance would have it took me past The Grove everyday on the way to work!
Wendy picks up the story:
I’d never considered new build, but Stuart was so enthusiastic that I drove down, booked a viewing and fell in love with the home that we’ve just moved into. The ‘wow’ factor hit me the moment I stepped through the door, with The Grove not being what you’d expect of a new development.I was impressed with the feeling of quality and sensitive attention to detail and little touches; it really was love at first sight. A quick glance at a couple of other new developments confirmed that The Grove, and this particular house, was the perfect choice for us.
Stuart reels off a list of the things that make life at their new home feel so luxurious;
It’s the little things that you notice after living in the house for a few months. From the way that the trims around the tiles in the bathrooms have been painstakingly added, to our beautiful wood burner in the sitting room, the huge garden with views of the distant Chilterns, to the rustic styled ‘Wychert’ wall to the side and back of our house.
Wendy used to be a Parish Council chairperson which had made her conscious of the need for local amenities and inclusion for all, so she was pleasantly surprised at the fact that 50% of the land on the Grove development has been set aside for open space, adding:
I was particularly excited about the possibility of building a real community at The Grove and to play a positive role within Haddenham’s very active social scene, especially as a cricket ground has been designated within The Grove’s boundary along with acres of green space and landscaping for all to enjoy. But the real opportunity is for a blend of lifestyles and generations to bring The Grove to life.
It’s hard for both Wendy and Stuart to agree on what they like the most about their new home at The Grove, from the way that the property flows around them to its spacious, light and airy feel, or the three bathrooms to the creation of a ‘wine cave’ under the stairs and the peace and quiet in the heart of Buckinghamshire.
While Wendy and Stuart think about their favourite features, with easy accessibility to stunning countryside walks, there’s no need to ask Bentley what he likes most about his new home, smiling ear-to-ear while ensuring that his owners get regular exercise and well deserved visits to a local pub – just don’t say ‘w-a-l-k-i-e-s’ out loud…
