Wingham School has received support from local housebuilder, Dandara, with a donation to help promote outdoor learning as part of the school’s outside education curriculum.
Last year, The Association of Play Industries announced a lack of investment in outdoor equipment play in primary schools across the UK[1]. In support of learning outside the classroom, Dandara, who is building new homes nearby at its Fortuna Fields development, provided £500 to the local school to help pupils expand their knowledge in nature.
The donation of wellies, a wellie rack and den-building equipment will support the pupils’ wellbeing by providing regular access to outdoor learning, promoting resilience, teamwork and positive mental health.
Emily Douglas, Head of School and Inclusion at Wingham School, commented: “The outdoor equipment we’ve been able to purchase from the donation has enhanced learning beyond the classroom for our children. By supporting their curiosity, wellbeing and engagement with hands-on experiences like den making will be a positive activity for them to engage in outside of classroom learning.”
Alex Dowling, Sales & Marketing Director at Dandara South East commented: “Helping contribute towards our local children’s education and wellbeing is vital. We believe every child deserves an opportunity to learn and grow both inside and outside the classroom, and our donation towards the equipment is a fantastic way to support the pupil’s development. We look forward to seeing how the den will be put to good use!”
