New Brunstane Site Update

New Brunstane Site Update

Planning Reference: 22/03946/AMC

Dandara Scotland is progressing enabling works at the New Brunstane site in accordance with planning permission granted by the City of Edinburgh Council.

Current Activity
Recent works have involved flailing (cutting long grass and regrowth using tractor-mounted equipment) as part of site preparation ahead of infrastructure and remediation works.
No herbicide application has taken place and none is currently planned. Vegetation will continue to be managed through periodic flailing as required.

We would like to inform the public that site works will be taking place over the coming week, including the reinstatement of boundary fencing, further ecological surveys, and vegetation cutting (flailing), as part of continued preparation for upcoming infrastructure works. All activities will be carried out with due consideration to the local environment and the surrounding community.

Ecological Surveys
A breeding bird survey was undertaken by a suitably qualified independent ecologist on 22nd of February 2026 prior to vegetation clearance commencing. A further ecological walkover was completed on 4th of March 2026 before additional tree removal.
On both occasions, no active nests were identified within the works areas.
In line with ecological guidance, further checks will be undertaken prior to any additional vegetation management where required.

Why Vegetation Is Being Managed
Vegetation management is necessary to control regrowth and allow for:
Remediation of historic mine workings
Service diversion works
Strategic earthworks associated with approved infrastructure
Infrastructure and drainage works
Surface water management
Formation of access points

These works form part of the enabling and infrastructure works under the consented development.

Site Safety
Boundary fencing is being reinstated to manage access during ongoing site operations and to ensure public safety given the presence of historic ground conditions and active works.
The site is privately owned and is not designated public open space. We therefore ask members of the public not to enter the site.

What Happens Next
Remediation works will continue, followed by infrastructure works required under the approved development. Detailed arrangements for housing delivery are being finalised in line with the planning consent.

We will continue to provide updates on this page as works progress.
