Planning permission granted for 360 new student rooms and new public gardens at Little George Street

Bristol City Council’s Planning Committee has resolved to grant planning permission for Dandara Living’s proposal to redevelop the former Alide Hire Services site on Little George Street. The scheme will deliver 360 high quality student rooms, shared amenity spaces, new public gardens and a dedicated community space for the Albaseera Bristol Masjid, helping support the aims of the Frome Gateway Regeneration Framework.

The development will transform a long underused industrial site into a welcoming and attractive place for residents, students and visitors. The new gardens and riverside walkway will be open to all, creating a green connection beside the River Frome. Buildings will range from six to twelve storeys and use high quality materials throughout.

All student rooms meet the University of Bristol’s space standards and residents will benefit from 24/7 onsite staff, shared study and social spaces and roof terraces overlooking the river. The scheme is car free and encourages walking and cycling, with new routes that help facilitate a future pedestrian and cycle bridge across the Frome.

The project will also deliver a significant biodiversity uplift, including a 20 per cent increase in watercourse units and a 13,000 per cent increase in habitat units, supported by extensive planting and landscape improvements.

Rachel Allwood, Planning Director, Dandara

“We are delighted that the Planning Committee has resolved to approve our application for Little George Street. For almost two years we have worked closely with council officers and local partners to ensure this development supports the regeneration ambitions for St Jude’s and delivers real benefits for local people.

“The outcome is a high quality scheme that creates new student accommodation, a dedicated community space for the Albaseera Bristol Masjid and a beautiful riverside garden open to everyone. We are grateful for the constructive engagement throughout and for the support shown by local groups and representatives.

“We look forward to bringing this project forward and playing our part in helping deliver the Frome Gateway vision.”
