To celebrate World Bee Day and National Gardening Week, independent housebuilder Dandara has donated bee friendly plant pots and seeds to 1st St Mellons Cubs and Llanishen and Lisvane Rainbows as part of its campaign to celebrate gardening.
This year’s gardening week theme, ‘Knowledge is Flower’, aims to raise awareness of the difference that gardening can make in the lives of everyone, helping to inspire the next generation of gardeners to experience the joy of creating and growing green spaces.
The donation from Dandara, who are building homes nearby at Sant Silian will encourage the children to get outside and involved in fun outdoor projects as the warmer months approach. Consisting of bee friendly plant pots, Royal Horticultural Society wildflowers and Red Trokia and Sonate Carmine flower seeds, the donation will help make the outdoor space full of colour and insect-friendly.
Claire, Girlguiding Llanishen and Lisvane Rainbows Leader, commented: “In our sessions, we aim to incorporate fun activities with outdoor learning, so are delighted to have received the donation of plant pots and seeds in line with gardening week. The Rainbows are excited to utilise the pots and seeds and look forward to seeing the end result.”
Michael Byrne, 1st St Mellons Cubs Leader, commented: “The donation from Dandara was a great activity for the Cubs to get involved with. It’s important for us to give practical and engaging ways for the Cubs to learn as we support them with skills for life, and the planting activity was exactly that!”
Sara Taylor, Sales Director at Dandara Wales & West, commented: “We are pleased to support the local Cubs and Rainbows and provide resources to help them learn about the importance of gardening and looking after nature. The pots and seeds are a great interactive way to help make outdoor spaces blossom; we hope that the groups enjoy the kits, and we look forward to seeing the garden come to life.”
