Invest in Energy-Efficient Features
One of the most effective ways to save money long-term is by reducing energy consumption. Many modern homes, including Dandara homes, are built with energy-efficient features such as high-quality insulation, double-glazed windows, and smart thermostats.
Good insulation keeps heat in during winter and out during summer, reducing the need for constant heating or cooling. Smart thermostats allow you to schedule temperatures around your lifestyle, ensuring energy isn’t wasted when rooms are empty. Pair these with LED lighting, which uses a fraction of the energy of traditional bulbs, and you’ll notice a significant difference in your energy bills.
On top of these smart home changes, the latest figures from the Home Builders Federation (HBF) show just how much more efficient modern properties already are. New build homes emit 65% less carbon each year – averaging 1.22 tonnes compared to 3.51 tonnes in older homes. They’re also built to higher energy standards, with 86% achieving an A or B EPC rating, while fewer than 5% of existing homes reach the same benchmark.
For homeowners, this translates into real savings. The HBF reports that heating, hot water and lighting costs in a new build average just over £800 per year, almost half the £1,789 typically spent in older properties – a saving of nearly £1,000 annually.*

Over time, these investments can save hundreds of pounds each year, proving that spending wisely at the outset is a form of long-term financial planning.
