South East MD Goes The Extra Mile To Raise Funds For Cancer Charity

South East Managing Director David Garrett smashed his fundraising target and raised an incredible £20,018 for Macmillan Cancer Support, after completing the London Marathon last weekend.

David Garrett completed the gruelling 26.2 mile course in just 3 hours 33 minutes, which was all the more impressive as it was his first ever marathon.

Taking on the challenge in unseasonably warm 20°C conditions, David pushed through the heat to cross the finishing line, supported by family, friends and the thousands of spectators lining the route.

He said: “The hot weather made it really tough, but I made sure I stayed hydrated and I was determined to get to the end. By the time I reached mile 25 I was totally exhausted, but seeing my wife, daughter and friends cheering me on gave me the push I needed to keep going.

“The atmosphere was just incredible, I have never experienced anything like it before. It would have been ten times harder without the support from the crowds.”

He added: “I’m so proud to have raised money for Macmillan whose work provides vital practical, emotional and financial support to those who need it most. I would like to thank everyone who sponsored me - their generosity and encouragement have meant so much to me and helped carry me through the long training runs during the cold winter months and the race itself.”

Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the UK’s leading cancer care charities, providing support to millions living with cancer. It funds nurses, doctors, and support lines to ensure no one faces cancer alone. The charity estimates that there are almost 3.5 million people living with cancer in the UK, with one person diagnosed with the disease every 75 seconds.

A spokesperson from Macmillan Cancer Support said: “£20,000 could pay for a Macmillan Support Worker for six months, helping people living with cancer receive the support they need. We are so grateful to David for his efforts and to everyone who sponsored him.”
