The winners of the poetry competition set by Housing Matters for the Buchan school were awarded with a certificate and book tokens by the team from Housing Matters and Jo Orton from Dandara, who is the sponsor of the charity’s Peer Education Programme (PEP).

The children were commended for the thought they had put in to their poems, the way they articulated themselves and their understanding of homelessness. The five winners, Jackson Bowers, Grenya Head, Jared Shepherd, Samuel Torpey and Chloe Treutler, were selected by a panel of judges. The competition was set following a PEP assembly presented by Katie and Margaret earlier in the year. The initiative uses real life experiences to dispel myths about homelessness and highlight the stark position of living without permanent accommodation.
