Bungalows still popular despite 80-year construction low
Bungalow construction has reached an 80-year low according to new figures released by the NHBC*. Only 228 bungalows were registered in the third quarter of 2023, down 70% from 2022.
Despite being one of the least-built house types in the country, bungalows consistently score well with downsizers, with 60% of over 65s interested in moving to one**. To help meet demand, Dandara Northern Homes has launched a selection of two-bedroom bungalows at The Meadows in Wymeswold, with prices reduced from £420,000 to £399,950.
Rachel Lindop, Head of Sales at Dandara Northern Home Counties said: “Bungalows appeal to a wide variety of homebuyers due to factors such as accessibility, privacy and energy efficiency. Traditionally, bungalows are a prime investment for downsizers, who are looking for an accessible single storey dwelling that will see them well into their later years.
“However, bungalows are also a big draw for first-time buyers with young children. Living in a home with a secure private garden and no stairs is a major bonus for parents. Bungalows also can be easier and cheaper to heat, which we can agree all homeowners are in the market for!”
Dandara’s Home of the Month, The Willow at The Meadows, is a two-bedroom detached bungalow offering open-plan kitchen-dining-living space at the rear of the property, with French doors opening to the garden. The home features two good-sized bedrooms, a single garage and two tandem driveway parking spaces.
Reserve The Willow before Christmas and receive a £10,000 options voucher to personalise your new home.
The Meadows is modern development consisting of 39 two-to-five-bedroom homes and bungalows, situated in the scenic village of Wymeswold. Wymeswold is home to several well-regarded schools and is host to a variety of shops and pubs in the village centre. It's easy to envision fresh start here in the countryside, with bountiful access to open green spaces and an abundance of transport links nearby.
