Demand heats up for Aberdeen business park with arrival of cooker firm

Saltire Cookers is the latest tenant to sign up for City South Business Park in Porthlethen.

The company has taken a five year lease on a 1,250 sq ft light industrial unit, at the 40 acre park five miles from Aberdeen City Centre.

Set up in 2019, Saltire refurbishes AGAs and is Scotland’s only installer of e-control systems which enable customers to moderate the temperatures of their cooker, making them cheaper to run.

Managing Director Steven Johnson said: “We had a small unit in Inverbervie but were struggling for space as demand for our services has increased sharply in recent months as a result of the energy crisis.

“We wanted to find a place that would give us lots of workspace but would have an attractive shopfront and City South was just perfect. The buildings are really well designed, the park is beautifully landscaped and there are lots of parking spaces.”

Landlord Barry Stanley of Clearwater Electrical added: “We moved to City South about three years ago and when the opportunity to buy a second unit at the park came up we snapped it up as it was such a good investment.  There aren’t many new business units like this in the Aberdeen area as a lot of them are fairly old and tired, so we knew we would be able to find a tenant relatively quickly.

“We were located in Altens Industrial Estate before and it was always so busy and navigating the city traffic was a nightmare.  City South is so easy to get to and the units are very well designed.

“I am sure Saltire will enjoy being located here as much as we do. Dandara has done an amazing job creating City South in Portlethen – it’s a great place to work.”

Developer Dandara recently started construction work on the third phase of units. The company is currently building a further 28 industrial units to meet demand from small and medium sized businesses for space.

The latest building work follows the success of previous phases at City South, which is now over 80% occupied and has attracted a strong line-up of tenants including KCA Deutag, Richard Irvin, HVAC, LHR Marine and lift specialist Otis.

Claire Bathgate, Head of Sales at Dandara Aberdeen, said: “Saltire Cookers are a great addition to the tenant line up at City South. Despite the current financial climate, there is a strong appetite for competitively priced, well located small industrial units and we have had a lot of interest in the new units.”

The first of the new units in Phase 3 will be ready to occupy from Spring 2023. Ranging in size from 850 sq ft they will be suitable for a wide variety of light industrial uses. Each unit will be completed to an EPC Rating A+ and will come with parking spaces. Larger units are also available along with class A office space.
