Last week, pupils at St Michael’s C of E Combined School in Stewkley, Buckinghamshire celebrated the village by burying a time capsule at independent housebuilder Dandara’s St Michael’s Park development on Soulbury Road. The objects which filled the time capsule were chosen or created by the children to reflect the theme: “What I love about Stewkley”.
The objects included in the time capsule hope to encapsulate the history of the area, with the items ranging from posters about life in Stewkley and at St Michael’s School, letters to the future, photographs of school displays and children’s learning. The children thought very hard about the key questions “What makes Stewkley special? What do we love about St. Michaels School?”
The capsule is scheduled to be dug up in 2122 by a new generation of residents.
David Morley, Headteacher at St Michael’s C of E Combined School, commented: “The students really enjoyed putting these items together, we’d like to thank Dandara for including us in this fantastic activity. It’s been a great way to teach the children the importance of memories and has allowed them to preserve a specific time in their life Hopefully those who open the capsule will enjoy learning about the community and hearing the stories the students have shared.”
Simon Pendlebury, Sales and Marketing Director for Dandara commented: “Time capsules are a special way to connect the community with residents of the future, and we hope that this activity offered a unique outlet for the children to get creative and express themselves. The pupils at St Michael’s C of E Combined School chose some excellent things to bury to celebrate their local area and we look forward to working with them in the future.”
